DP World Tour Suspends Player for Three Months Over Sports Betting
The DP World Tour announced on Wednesday that Marco Penge has been suspended for three months, with one month deferred, for violating the tour’s betting regulations.
According to the DP World Tour’s statement, Penge, a 26-year-old English golfer, placed multiple bets on golf events but did not wager on himself or on tournaments in which he was actively participating. An independent panel confirmed that the events’ integrity was not compromised.
The suspension took effect on December 13, 2024, and Penge will be eligible to return to competition on February 13, 2025. In addition to the suspension, Penge was fined €2,000.
Penge’s actions were found to be in breach of DP World Tour Regulation 3(a)(i), which prohibits covered individuals from directly or indirectly betting or instructing others to bet on the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of professional or elite amateur golf events worldwide.
Currently ranked 414th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Penge recently tied for 27th at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.
