Billy Horschel Withdraws from 2024 3M Open a Week After British Open Close Call
BLAINE, Minn. – Billy Horschel has withdrawn from the 3M Open on Thursday, just ahead of his tee time. Horschel, who secured a tie for second place at the British Open last week, cited illness as the reason for his withdrawal.
Unfortunately, had to withdraw from @3MOpen. Woke up with a fever, body aches, and back just locked up. Tried to warm up and give it a go but body just wouldn’t let it happen. Really disappointed to WD as my family and I enjoyed it here last year and we were hoping to improve…

“I’m really disappointed,” Horschel said in a statement Thursday morning. “I wasn’t feeling well last night and took some medicine. I had a decent sleep, but woke up with a fever and a body that just won’t cooperate. Every muscle feels locked up. I tried warming up in the gym and hitting some balls on the course, but my body just isn’t responding.”
Horschel had been one of the first players on the driving range on Tuesday and expressed his eagerness to continue his strong performance from the British Open, aiming for his ninth PGA Tour win this week.

During his pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, Horschel had dismissed the idea of withdrawing despite the challenges of travel and time zone differences. “When you’re playing well, you want to keep that momentum going,” he said. “I’m committed to playing unless there are extraordinary circumstances. I wanted to continue building on my recent success.”
On Wednesday, Horschel acknowledged the impact of jet lag and travel fatigue. “Waking up this morning, I was tired and my body was moving slower than usual, which is expected after traveling halfway around the world and playing in Scotland recently,” he noted.
Scheduled to tee off at 1:53 p.m. ET on Thursday, Horschel will be replaced by alternate Adam Long.
“It’s very disappointing,” Horschel reiterated. “I was looking forward to playing here at the 3M Open, especially after a good finish last year. The event is well-run, and I’m sorry to miss it after such a great week at the British Open.”
